Selling

During the printing and cutting of my plants, and the install, I have had a fair amount of interest from people wanting to buy them after the degree show.

I think it would be most appropriate to sell them flat pack, with the appropriate stands and supports, rather than already built. It would make transport much easier and make them more charming and individual when the customer has to build it themselves.

I have looked into current flat pack paper gifts to see how the crafter goes about selling them:

Publicising

The internet is a vital tool in publicising work.

gemmamarsh.com
My website acts as an online portfolio, displaying my CV, contact details, artist statement and galleries of my previous work. This allows possible employers to get an idea of my work. It also acts as a way for the public to access my work and links to other sites such as my shop.

apapergarden.bigcartel.com
I have created an online shop as a way to sell my paper flowers and plants after assessment. They will be sold flat packed with stands and instructions. I think this makes them more interesting for the customer as it resembles an arrangement that they are planting themselves.
The shop is currently under 'coming soon' status so I can work on building it and making the products appropriate for the customers.

I have also been featured on the Great Western Arcade facebook page which will make people aware of my display.

Business cards
Front
Back
I have created a series of business cards which also act as limited edition prints as they are highly decorated with one of my illustrations. They're double sided, with the illustration wrapping around onto the other side. They also have my trademark and web address on them.

What next.

After graduation I wish to carry on developing this work. I plan on trying different materials and presentation of my creations.

Printing illustrations.

Wallpaper.

Floral wallpapers are very popular at the moment and I think some of my favourite illustrations- the pink geraniums and early forget-me-nots- would look particularly strong as wallpaper designs. I would have to develop this idea and experiment with layering them on photoshop before printing them.

Printed textiles.

I have always really liked floral patterned textiles. After layering and experimenting more with my illustrations, I will print them onto fabric and use them for different projects such as cushion and quilt making.

Cutting.

I intend to carry on using my vector drawings as a cutting template, but experimenting with different materials.

Plastic.

I want to try cutting some of the shapes out of plastic. These could be used as drink coasters or light fixtures.

Metal.

I could also look into using different types of metal to give my illustrations a completely different feel.
